remembering

Today I celebrate my tenth birthday.
I remember ten years ago today. the day I was "born".
I remember the clinic, the doctors, my brand-new husband by my side.
I remember the news.
I remember the knot in my gut.
I remember thinking about my life. (too short, still too much to do)
I remember thinking back on how head-strong I was as a child. how I would not back down no matter what. (remember, mom?)
I remember awakening that little child in me. with all that strength. who would not back down.
I'm glad I remembered.
Today I celebrate.

Truly, truly calls for celebration! I didn't even realize that today was that day : ) In the same sentiments of Frida Kahlo and Chris Martin.........

VIVA LA VIDA! If I may add... EFFING viva la vida!

Viva La Vida, this blog name has never been so true! You are a survivor and a hero since the day you were diagnosed. Love and hugs.

Oh Nana...I remember the child, the young girl, the teenager who always always won in spite of loss, who always kicked the asses of the nuisances in her life. Clinking my glass to yours - to good health, a beautiful family, and 50 or so more years of living strong. Big hug!!!

Oh I remember, Nana. I remember.

The shriky-dinks, and defending you against bully big bro when I finally grew taller than him...

The jokes in poor taste at the hospital (we were both in the Maternity ward after all) about cousins Boobie & Cisco...

These ten years are celebrations of endless miracles, the magic if Mak + Tato...

The mantra - you don't mess with a Nana, you just don't. Because Nana's girls take no crap from nothing and nobody!

So today (and belatedly entered, in Lola B fashionably lateness) we celebrate crossing the ten-year mark and bravely, beautfully face the many more miracles waiting for us in the many more ten-year marks ahead.

Tishie, ten years for you too. And yes, nobody messes with Original Nana's grandgirls!
