wild anticipation

We've been excited about the film version of Where the Wild Things Are since the trailer first came out. But now there's more buzz... and from genius author Maurice Sendak himself.

Writer and director Spike Jonze on advice from Sendak: "He said from the beginning that you have to make it dangerous, to make something that respects kids and doesn't talk down to them...."

Sendak on the film: "There will be controversy about this. But the film has an entire emotional, spiritual, visual life which is as valid as the book."

Quotes came from this featurette....

I love the book. I love Sendak. I love Jonze. They love each other. They don't talk down to kids. My heart wants to explode. Looking forward to October!

Better bring out our copy so Jack can get into it. :)

They do seem to genuinely respect and love each other's crafts. Now that's a solid collaboration!
I introduced it to the boys when they were two. A bit too early, i think. Freaked them out. Eager mama! We have some reading to do before October

Oh but in one interview Maurice Sendak himself said... if a book scares the kids, throw it away! Even if it's his own Wild Things. The boys will like it when they're ready... Chicha can only read it when it's day time, she can't handle it at night : )

Nana, Barn let's all watch together this October!

Wow cant wait for that !
What used to scare me as a child was the The Snow Queen in The Chronicles of Narnia. She was quietly, unpredictably evil, devoid of grand theatrics- and she seduced with Turkish delight ( my favorite )
